What To Expect
At the Artist's Umbrella, no two shows are the same.
While the show started with a lot of poets and musicians and still features them every month, "non-traditional" artists have become a staple of the event. The show has seen belly dancers, flow artists, painters (on stage), storytelling, break dancing, a melted crayon artist, and a turtle and a boa constrictor.
The Umbrella takes place the last Wednesday of every month at The Loft in downtown Lansing, from 6:30-9:30
Flow art isn't always featured on the same stage as hip-hop artists and rock bands, but here at the Umbrella, if you're passionate about it, we love it. From belly dancing to hula hooping, if you move your body to music, come do it on our stage.
We're not just about the performing arts. Art is art and we want to feature it all. Many of our shows get painters right up on stage with performers. Watch their work come to life as you soak in music and poetry.
Our performers play to a packed venue every month. From Ukelele players to father-son duos, we pack the house because our audience never knows what they're going to get.
"There's so many seasoned and diverse talents, vulnerable and open artists, and love and support at these shows. Highly recommended for those who want to be entertained, inspired, encouraged, and surprised. You never know what you'll get to be a part of under the Umbrella."
"Some may expect an artistic event of this caliber to feel a bit pretentious, but the Artist's Umbrella is truly "the people's" art event --- a very down to earth and enriching experience for all."

"Every time I go I am more impressed than the last. Craziness. Zaniness. Mad talent. Incredible performers. Newbies. Nervousness. New friends. Art, art, art, and artists. IT'S A BIG BOWL OF LOVE OVER HERE!!"
